I hesitated to throw my two cents into this mix. is what it is, and, Santa is right, it should work fine. Yeah, I believe the XP purchase was a mistake, among other things because any laptop loaded w/ XP will be OLD AS SHART, (but also: speed and stability and ease-of-use are better w/ W7), but. Well, XP was the Windows version back in the days of the PowerMac.) (BTW if you want a Mac analogy for how old XP is: Would you ever use a PowerMac today? Good lord of course not. I use the utility from FTDI to check and change the COM port which is MUCH easier than using native Windows methods.

Its not THAT complicated but be aware if your cable isn't recognized to go find the writeups that tell you how to find what COM port its being assigned to. The one trick that can be hard for non-techos when it comes to setup can be if you have issues w/ finding / setting the COM port. Why you'd not buy one of those instead of some XP antique is beyond me but I'm sure you have some rationale. There's only about 100 of them on my local craigslist right now for $100-150. If/when you discover that machine is too slow and/or XP suxballz, just buy another used Win7 laptop. Because of the aforementioned (aka that any total piece o' crap XP machine is gonna be old as the pharoahs at this point) I'd NOT mess w/ a Win7 upgrade, that'll only make for more misery.

Just install that Mike's Easy package, and then hope that your cable/drivers all install right and you should be OK. Seems typical Trainwreck to get advice to do Y and to not do X(P) but then do X anyway but then later come back and admit "yeah you guys were right I should not have done that but I was on a budget and so I went the cheap way but umm now have to do it over again". So decide if you want easy install in one go and translate errors in google, or you can use other guides where you will install all software one by one, but will have full englishĪll info copied from bimmerfest forum, don't know if it's ok to post links to other forums, so just copied everything from there The ONLY thing that users may need to do is reconfigure their COM port to be COM1 after the install, but a Readme file pops up after the install with simple instructions.īut at least on E39 errors in inpa will be in german.
